Theme: “Act Now for a Peaceful World”
On this day, as the world commemorates the International Day of Peace, the South Sudan National Youth Union (SSNYU) stands in solidarity with the global community in reaffirming our shared commitment to peace, justice and sustainable development.
This year’s theme, “Act now for a peaceful world” reminds us that peace is not just the absence of war but the presence of equality, opportunity and dignity for all. For the young people of South Sudan, peace is not a distant dream; it is a daily pursuit and an urgent necessity.
As the largest demographic group in our nation, the youth of South Sudan have borne the heaviest burdens of conflict, displacement, and underdevelopment. Yet, we remain the most powerful force for reconciliation, resilience, and renewal.
Although there are challenges in the implementation, We acknowledge and appreciate the efforts made by the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity, regional partners, civil society and international stakeholders toward the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
However, we call for dialogue amongst the stakeholders and urgent return to the implementation of R-ARCISS. Today, In line with this year’s theme of International day of peace,The South Sudan National Youth Union;
1. Calls on all stakeholders to uphold the principles of peace, unity, and reconciliation.
2. Commits to mobilizing youth across South Sudan to be ambassadors of peace in their communities.
3. Advocates for quality education, employment, and empowerment, which are the foundations of lasting peace.
4. Condemns all forms of violence, including tribalism, hate speech and armed conflict which threaten the fabric of our young nation and urge the signatories to the R-ARCISS to prioritize dialogue.
In light of the above, the South Sudan National Youth Union stands in Solidarity with the world in the pursuit of world peace and call on the people of South Sudan to prioritize peace. It is through peace that we shall realize development and prosperity that our nation yawns for.
