The leadership of the South Sudan National Youth Union (SSNYU) expresses its deepest concern and heartfelt sympathy following the tragic fire incident that occurred at Custom Market yesterday, on the 1st of December, 2025.
The Union stands in unwavering solidarity with the affected traders, families, and especially the young entrepreneurs whose livelihoods have been severely disrupted by this unfortunate event.

In light of the significant damage caused to businesses and property, the SSNYU urgently calls on the relevant government authorities to take the following steps:
Thorough Investigation: Conduct an immediate and comprehensive investigation to determine the root cause of the fire.
Immediate Relief: Provide urgent support and humanitarian relief to all affected individuals and businesses who have lost their goods and income.
Long-Term Safety: Actively engage stakeholders, including market leaders and youth groups, to develop and implement long-term safety strategies to prevent future tragedies.
We commend the timely efforts of the fire service, security agencies, and the brave volunteers who worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent further damage. Your bravery and swift response are truly appreciated by the youth of this nation.
“As an organization committed to youth empowerment, SSNYU strongly calls on authorities and partners to urgently set up mechanisms to identify those affected and provide them with immediate relief.”
We remain committed to advocating for the safety and prosperity of South Sudan’s youth and business community.
